Illinois Director Credential

Direct Route

The Illinois Director Credential (IDC) can be achieved through a direct route application process. This involves the potential candidate submitting a portfolio to the IDC Commission. The portfolio includes evidence of teaching and management experience as well as professional contributions.

The direct route process also includes an evaluation of the candidate’s transcript(s). Courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better to be considered. A demonstration of core knowledge and skills in Early Care and Education and Management are requirements. Trainings and other alternative forms of non-credit courses may be considered by accompanied additional information about the content and requirements. Assessment of Prior Learning is another alternative for evaluating non-credit courses, or experience. Please contact our office if you have any questions about non-credit courses.

Once a candidate’s transcript has been evaluated they can request the services of a Professional Development Advisor. The Professional Development Advisor will assist with identifying and documenting coursework, professional contributions and other requirements of the Illinois Director Credential Program. Assistance for all of the above is also available through the Gateways to Opportunity Professional Development Staff.

Upon completion, the potential candidate submits his or her portfolio to the IDC Commission for approval at level I, II, or III . The IDC appears as a credential option on the Gateways to Opportunity Lattice.
