Renewal and Level Advancement

To Renew Your Gateways Credentials

Gateways Credentials, except for the ECE Credential Level 1 and SAYD Credential Level 1, need to be renewed every five years to remain valid. The requirements for renewal vary depending on which Credential(s) you have and at which levels. Renewal requirements for the School-Age and Youth Development, Family Child Care, Family Specialist and Technical Assistance Credentials have not been determined.  Download the checklist for the Credential(s) you have and want to renew.

Steps to Renew

  1. Become a Gateways Registry member, if you are already a Registry member move on to Step 2.
  2. Download the Direct Route Credentials Supplement Application.
  3. Fill out the Supplement Application including the Information Update Form.
  4. Print a copy of your Registry Professional Development Record.
  5. Copy certificates of completion for training hours and send in as proof of any trainings not in Section 5 of your Professional Development Record (PDR). Certificates must include length of training.
  6. Include specific documentation that is needed for renewal based on the checklist(s), including Professional Contributions.
  7. Enclose Credential fee (make checks payable to INCCRRA).
  8. Mail these documents to:

  9. Request your official transcripts be sent to Gateways from your accredited college or university if you have completed coursework since your current credential was awarded.  Official transcripts can be sent electronically to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  If INCCRRA already has official transcripts, with the new coursework, you do not need to resend. 

To Level Advance

To move up a level on your Gateways Credential you will need to apply for a Level Advancement. Once you have applied, a Credential Counselor will work with you to identify what you need in terms of education, training, and experience to advance the level of your Credential. You may download the Credential Frameworks to see what is required at each level.

Steps to Level Advance

  1. Become a Gateways Registry member, if you are already a Registry member move on to Step 2.
  2. Download the Credential Supplement Application for the specific Credential you want to level advance.  Use the menu above to link to the specific Credential page. 
  3. Fill out the Supplement Application including the Information Update Form.
  4. Print a copy of your Professional Development Record.
  5. Include trainings and coursework not already on file with INCCRRA or on your PDR.
  6. Copy certificates of completion for training hours. Training certificates must have the length of training.
  7. Enclose Level Advancement fee (make checks payable to INCCRRA).
  8. Mail these documents to:
